Check out this blog post about the important issue of Child Sex Tourism and what we can do to help stop it!

Farewell Internet Studies

This is my last assignment post for this blog, but don't fret because this is not the end of my blogging career. From this class I have learned many things. First, is the ability to actually blog. I've always attempted to blog in the past but I never understood the tools and layouts. Now I can use these skills to create more blogs and blogs for companies in the future. My most popular post from this blog was my Wikileaks drinking game. It doesn't surprise me that this post was a hit because it involves alcohol, and who doesn't like to drink? Plus my target audience from this blog most likely appeals to high school or college students who can relate to drinking games. Future bloggers I advise you to blog about things that interest you. It will help you write and create passages that are in depth so people will enjoy. Arrivederla my readers!

Remix Manifesto

https://twitter.com/remixmanifesto

This is what the twitter account looks like for Brett Gaylor, director and creator of the documentary "Remix Manifesto." This documentary was shown in Internet Studies class and it is by the far the first time I truly paid attention in class. Gaylor shines a light on one of his favorite bands Girl Talk and how his music is "illegal." This documentary shows the dynamics of copyrighting and how our society is making the ability to make art harder and harder. Check it out!

Do You Trust These Brands?

Thicke vs. Gaye

VS.

The battle begins between Marvin Gaye and Robin Thick. Here is the link to the article about how Robin Thicke is suing Marvin Gaye for a song similar to "Blurred Lines." The monster of Copyright has struck again. You can also listen to both songs from this article. You decide.

Another ASU meme

Lawrence Lessig; the Savior against the iPhones

'When did it become inappropriate to inform people about legally protected rights related to technical issues?" he declared. "Is talking about legal rights the new porn?"

Everyone has their ups and downs with the iPhone. I myself have lately been furious with the lack of originality and structure of Apple. Every time I turn my shoulder there's something new going on with the iPhone or the iPad. I'm pretty sure we're going to have iTampons in the next ten years. I stumbled upon this article about how Lawrence Lessig is giving legal advice to those who are having problems with the new iPhone iOS 7. It is a great article that can save you a buck on a broken iPhone.

The Talents of Jimmy Fallon and Others

Stumbled upon this on Facebook. An a cappella performance with Jimmy Fallon, Miley Cyrus, and the Roots Sing. Shows modern technology used for entertainment. Also it follows this A Cappella trend on youtube where one person can create their own band.

Re-blog

Check out my home girls blog page and this sweet article that she stumbled upon about the organization called Anonymous. I'm personally obsessed with this group. I follow them on twitter, tumblr, memes, anything having to do with them. One day I hope to join them and rule the world.

INVISIBLE CHILDREN; IT'S REAL.

InvisibleChildren

Above I have the link to the Facebook event for Appalachian State's Invisible Children clubs first screening for this year! I am heavily involved with the club, and am in line to take over as President. Our screening will be held October 23rd, 2013 starting at 8 pm located in I.G. Greer.

For those of you who do not know about Invisible Children I will give you a brief summary of what it is about:
Invisible Children started back in 2004 when three college graduates traveled to Uganda on a whim and stumbled upon a travesty. Children and women were walking for miles, carrying all their belongings, and sleeping in roads, bus stations, and anywhere they felt safe. These people were running away from the LRA (Lords Resistance Army) and it's leader Joseph Kony. It has been the mission of Invisible Children to save these children from becoming child soldiers, from women being raped and kidnapped, and from lives ending. Their mission is to make these horrors in Uganda and in South Sudan visible to the world. It is our right and duty to do whatever it takes to stop Joseph Kony and end a war that has been going on for over 20 years.

If you would like to be more involved with Invisible Children I encourage you to come and join our club! We meet every thursday at 7 pm in Newland Dorm. Or if you would like to involve yourself with the actual organization and donate then visit InvisibleChildrenhomepage where you can learn about the current mission #ZEROLRA.

Wikiwars- The Latest Drinking Game

For those of you who have never played "Wikiwars".... please do. This is the next catch phrase of our generation. Since we are always on our laptops, Wikiwars is a perfect way to interact with friends and family. I could play this game stone cold sober, but it I recently turned it into a drinking game (college kid probz) and it was the funniest experience I had ever encountered.

So for Wikiwars drinking style here are the rules:
1. Everytime you click a link you take a swig of your drink (or a shot of beer).
2. When you win, the loser has to take a shot.
3. If you have to backspace you drink 5 seconds of a drink.
4. If you use the search button you have to drink 10 seconds of your drink.

Watching my friends do this was out of a movie. I felt like we were in the Van Wilder version of the Social Network. Wikiwars has officially become my new favorite game. For those of you who want a more intellectual drinking game then WIKIWARS IS YOUR ANSWER.
Yahooooooowhooo

MACKLEMORE NAMED HIS NEXT ALBUM AFTER ME!

Yes, recording artist Macklemore and Ryan Lewis will release their new album, "I Adore CFR" in the summer of 2014. The title is derived from ME. "CFR" are my initials, Colleen Francis Ratigan. Do you want to know why he is naming this album after me?

1. Because I have a full Irish name and Macklemore is my long lost Irish brother.
2. We met after one of his shows in Asheville in November 2012 and he was inspired by my philosophy of life.
3. BECAUSE WIKIPEDIA SAYS SO.

Don't believe me? Check it out then: Wikilink

If Wikipedia says so, then it is so.

Invitation to my Blog

So I've been checking out the traffic of my blog and so far I have 142 views. Those who are viewing my blog are locations from the United States and Alaska. iPhone number....? - Latest News

Newstory

Above I have a link to BBC news website about the current iPhone 5 being launched. If you have a Mac or any Apple product, Apple is advertising their new colorful iPhone 5 all over the Safari pages. This specific story provides all the backlash from other companies and news stations who all have unhappy words about this iPhone mayhem.

A.I. - The Future of Computers

A.I. (Artificial Intelligence) a movie that came out in 2001 represents my favorite form of computer technology. This movie is about a boy robot who was programmed to love and interact with humans. A.I truly intrigued me because the society they portray in this movie seems possible in our future. Our computers are already moving in an artificial intelligence direction such as remembering sites and searches on the internet. And also I chose this example because I LOVE this movie!

"W3...NOT the internet!"

Above I have a private Q&A between Tim Berners-Lee and Forbes reporter J.J. Colao. It is a very interesting video because right away the reporter messes up on basic information about Tim Berners-Lee and Karen Bartleson. It's an informal setting with casual conversations between all three of them. The filming of this interview makes it seem as if you were in the room with them listening and joining in. It's a simple video that allows those who do not know about the World Wide Web help understand it better.

Men of the Internet

http://www.internethalloffame.org/inductees/tim-berners-lee

Here is the link to the Internet Hall of Fame website where they have inducted Tim Bernes-Lee. On this site he is famed for his invention of the World Wide Web (W3) followed by a quick bio of when he started and what he created. It also gives you a list of other internet inductees and their stories.

http://brucesterling.tumblr.com

Above is the tumblr account for Bruce Sterling. I thought this was better insight about Bruce than a Wiki article or bio on the internet. His tumblr account allows everyone across the web to see who he really is and relate to him. From his tumblr I have learned that he is very informed about news stories over in parts of Asia, and that he is a big fan of architecture and design.

http://www.huffingtonpost.com/lawrence-lessig/

Above is an article from the Huffington Post about Lawrence Lessig. It briefly describes who Lawrence is and what he is known more, but then the rest of the article promotes Lessig's blog. The article has a list of his titled blog entries with links so people an go directly to his blog and read about what he thinks. They are serious and very controversial blog entries that sparks curiosity when clicking the links.

Blog Transformation

When creating my blog I actually went ahead and customized it before the assignment was given. I originally wanted to put this picture of LA that I took while there this summer as the background, but it was too big of a picture. So I went with the lantern provided by the blog layouts given to you. I think the lantern represents me in a way; always burning bright for those to see but in a calming and peaceful way. I kept most of the color schemes that came with this layout except for the font color. I changed the font from maroon to blue-green because blue is my favorite color and I wanted a splash of something else on my blog page. Don't be afraid to visit my page!

Introductions

Welcome to my blog, Life in the Works. Life is just beginning for me, so this blog will represent everything I have come across and everything I hope to come across in the grand scheme of life. I hope you can relate and connect with the things I post.
